History

Our department was founded in the 1994-1995 academic year by Dr. Hanefi Özbek, Assoc. Prof. Yaşar Şeker, and Instructor Bahattin Çok. Yüzüncü Yıl University Rectorate Fine Arts Instructors Ramazan Mert and Tuna Koç started teaching in the Music Department. Later, Instructor Hasan Soysal joined the staff. Since its establishment, our department has continued its education and training activities with a quota of 30 students every year, and has Master's and Doctorate programs. 2 Professors, 1 Associate Professor, 4 Assistant Instructors, 2 Instructors and 2 Research Assistants are working in the department.

Qualification Awarded

The graduates of the department are able to work as music teachers at state and private (elementary and) secondary schools/tertiary institutions.

Specific Admission Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Placement Through a nation wide student selection and placement (TYT) examination Student admission to the Faculty of Education is carried out through the TYT (Basic Proficiency Test) exam and special aptitude exam organized by OSYM. Elimination of individuals, who will receive professional music education, has been verified with the “Entrance Examination” that evaluates the features of musical competence of individuals. Therefore, for the student who successfully completes the DFA Faculty of Music Education program, “Entrance Examination Guidelines” have been created. Through this directive, elimination has been verified for the selection of the best ones among the candidates participating in the exam in terms of “musical features” and “general culture”

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Successfully completion of upper secondary school or equivalent and entitled to receive diploma.

Department Of Music Teaching The Department offers a four-year-long undergraduate program that aims to produce music educators for secondary education institutions.

Access to Further Studies

Depending on the Institute of Educational Sciences, the department offers post graduation and doctoral programs in the field of Music Education. Therefore, while the main purpose of the department is to train music teachers, it also aims to train experts in different fields (instrument training, voice training, choral, music theory and music-composing, writing training, etc) with post graduate and doctorate degree, scientist and artist-educators.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

At Yüzüncü Yıl University, student success evaluation is based on letter grades, a 4-point system, and a raw success score (HBP) in the 100-point system. The Department of Music Education adopts student-centered teaching approaches, making artistic learning an active and experiential process. Methods such as project/presentation preparation and performance work are used in lessons, and active participation of students is encouraged. Individual and group work is supported to develop students' creativity, and problem-solving and critical thinking skills are developed in artistic processes. Instructors provide individual feedback to students, monitoring their academic and artistic development. Measurement and evaluation processes are designed to evaluate student performance in a fair and transparent manner.

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate from the Music Teaching Undergraduate Program, students must have successfully completed all courses in the program and have successfully completed a course load of 240 ECTS credits.
