History

The Department of Fine Arts Education, Department of Painting and Art Education, which was established in 1993 within the Faculty of Education and began to receive its first students in the 1993-94 academic year, continues its mission continuously until today. During this time, our department has given hundreds of graduates with the title of art educator, most of these graduates work as academicians in private and official institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in different years of our country, as well as in different universities of our country. Painting and Work Education Anabilim Department, in the past years Ana has provided art workshop training in painting, sculpture, graphics, traditional Turkish arts, and today continues to provide education in painting, graphic traditional Turkish arts and ceramics. In addition, our graduates continue their individual artistic lives and productions in various art fields. Painting - Business Education Faculty of Arts has trained and continues to train art educators who have developed visual perception, can express themselves through artistic means, recognize, learn, protect and take responsibility for passing on the culture they live in, respect the world cultural heritage, and are creative and constructive.

Students graduate from the department of Visual Art Teaching with the bachelor degree after completing all the necessities and conditions of graduation.

Specific Admission Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Placement Through a nation wide student selection and placement (TYT) examination Student admission to the Faculty of Education is carried out through the TYT (Basic Proficiency Test) exam and special aptitude exam organized by OSYM. Students' academic and artistic development is monitored by in-class evaluations, artistic project exhibitions and academic performance analyses.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Successfully completion of upper secondary school or equivalent and entitled to receive diploma.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

This program offers a four-year undergraduate education in Visual Arts Education - Painting and Art Teaching and consists of a total of 240 ECTS credits. The curriculum includes art education, art history, teaching methodology, and applied art courses. Main course categories include: Field Education (AE): Basic Design, Drawing, Perspective, Art History, Major Art Studio Studies, Visual Arts Teaching Programs, Contemporary Art Professional Knowledge (MB): Introduction to Educational Sciences, Teaching Methods, Educational Psychology, Classroom Management, Measurement and Evaluation in Education, Teaching Practice General Culture (GK): Atatürk’s Principles and History of Turkish Reforms, Turkish Language, Foreign Language, Information Technologies, Community Service Practices Elective Courses: Graphic Design, Sculpture, Textile Design, Ceramics, Traditional Turkish Arts, Photography, Printmaking, Industrial Design The grading system is aligned with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and follows a 4.0 GPA letter grading scale. Students must complete at least 240 ECTS to graduate.

Profile of The Programme

The Art and Crafts Teaching Undergraduate Program aims to train teachers equipped with knowledge, skills and pedagogical competencies in the field of visual arts in line with the understanding of contemporary art and education. The program focuses on training individuals who support artistic creativity, develop critical thinking skills and are sensitive to ethical and aesthetic values. It offers students a comprehensive education in the fields of art history, art theories, visual narrative techniques and teaching methods with both theoretical and applied courses. Individuals who graduate from this program will have the competence to teach visual arts as art educators who can think creatively, have strong communication skills, are well-versed in field knowledge and have a high sense of professional responsibility.

Art teaching program brings up students towards Turkish national education needs and nowadays art education processes requirements and with providing them being graduated equipped, each of them becomes a leading art teacher or an art educator. The students brought up considering the needs of teaching program and principals of art education, become an important part of the Turkish art education. Within the framework of contemporary science and education principles, to train contemporary visual arts teachers who are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills for the art and profession of teaching, who are proficient in methods and techniques related to education and teaching, who value ethical and aesthetic values, who are respectful to social values, who are questioning, researcher, have strong communication skills, are well-equipped in their field, and who are self-confident. Graduates of this program can work as teachers in public schools, private educational institutions and art centers affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, by receiving the title of Visual Arts Teacher. They can also pursue a career in art workshops, museums, art management, graphic design and illustration sectors or as independent artists.

Access to Further Studies

Successful students graduated from art teaching program, in case of taking adequate points from ALES exam and have adequate diploma points can deserve to enter master program.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

At Yüzüncü Yıl University, student success evaluation is based on letter grades, 4-point system, and raw success score (HBP) in the 100-point system. The Department of Art Education adopts student-centered teaching approaches, making artistic learning an active and experiential process. • Methods such as project-based learning, portfolio evaluation and art workshop studies are used in the courses, and active participation of the students is encouraged. • Individual and group work is supported to develop the creativity of the students, and problem-solving and critical thinking skills are developed in artistic processes. • Instructors provide individual feedback to the students, and follow their academic and artistic development. • Measurement and evaluation processes in art education programs are designed to evaluate student performance in a fair and transparent manner.
